Hazaribag: Wider roads, improved illumination and redesigned junctions are set to reshape the city’s landscape under a major Rs 114-crore road infrastructure project. The ambitious plan moved a step closer to execution on Tuesday with the laying of foundation stones for widening, strengthening and reconstruction of a key stretch of the old NH-33 under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme. The project spans nearly 9.28 km, from Bharat Mata Chowk to Sindoor bypass, one of the city’s busiest corridors linking the state capitals Ranchi and Patna.The foundation stone was laid by Hazaribag MP Manish Jaiswal in the presence of Sadar MLA Pradip Prasad, mayor Arvind Rana, Zila Parishad chairman Umesh Prasad Mehta and other public representatives.An official said that the project involves comprehensive upgradation of the road with modern infrastructure aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing road safety. The route connects several key residential and commercial pockets, including Masipirhi, Aryanagar, Patratu Road, Columbus College More, Bus Stand Chowk, Churchu Road, District More and Vikas Nagar before merging with the Sindoor bypass.Authorities have identified 54 junctions along the stretch where multiple roads intersect. All these points will be developed and beautified. Officials said upgrading these intersections is expected to significantly enhance traffic management while giving the city a more organised and visually appealing look.The project also includes installation of solar-powered streetlights along both sides of the road. According to officials, 926 poles carrying around 18,540 lights will be installed at intervals of about 30 metres. Two high-mast lights will be set up, while road dividers will be constructed using New Jersey crash barriers.Speaking at the event, MP Jaiswal said, “Efforts to secure and implement the project had been underway for nearly one and a half years and its completion would provide relief to residents grappling with traffic congestion and poor road conditions.” Sadar MLA Pradip Prasad added, “The initiative would boost connectivity and make travel safer and more convenient for commuters within Hazaribag as well as those travelling to Ranchi, Patna and other cities.”
