Jamshedpur Private Schools Mandated to Display Fee Committee Details, Empowering Parents

Jamshedpur: Private English medium schools in Steel City will now have to display details of the members of the school fees determination committee at prominent locations on the premises so that parents can contact them for information pertaining to admission, academics or lodge complaints, if any, officials said.East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Karan Satyarthi has directed authorities to undertake surprise inspection of schools to ensure compliance.“In the fee book, schools must mention the specific heads for which fees are being demanded, such as tuition and development fees. This provides parents with clarity regarding the fees they are paying,” said Satyarthi, who chaired the district level education monitoring committee meeting on Monday. He added that no school should deviate from the rules laid down by state govt.He also asked private schools not to ask parents to purchase books and uniforms from select stores. “Parents should have the liberty to purchase books, uniform and shoes as per their choice and ease,” Satyarthi said. The DC said that strict action will be taken against the school if there’s a complaint that parents were forced to purchase from select stores.“District officials should conduct random inspection of schools to find out what’s happening on the ground. Parents usually don;t come forward to complain against a school over fee hike,” said Shailesh Tiwary, father of a Class VII student.Principal of a private school, Vernon D’Souza, said that earlier the management used to facilitate sale of books on the campus so that parents don’t have to go to multiple stores. “From this year, the school has discontinued selling books on the campus,” he said.Jamshedpur Abhibhavak Sangh president Umesh Kumar said the new academic session has started in some schools from April 1 and the administration should have been proactive during February-March when the admission process was underway.
