Ranchi: JMM on Tuesday attacked the central govt over the alleged lapses in various examinations, including the CBSE on-screen marking (OSM) row, and demanded immediate removal of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.JMM central general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya accused the Narendra Modi govt of jeopardising the fate of lakhs of students in the country owing to its failed policies and lapses.“Country’s education system is being taken to the point of collapse even as the world is moving ahead in the era of artificial intelligence. Question paper leaks in NEET, irregularities in CBSE’s new on-screen marking system, and confusion surrounding the Cuet are some of the testimonies of Modi govt’s systemic failures over the year,” he said.Referring to recent controversies, he claimed that lapses in examination processes caused severe stress among students. “There are reports of many dying by suicide. The agencies responsible for conducting exams, including the National Testing Agency (NTA), have failed to ensure transparency and accountability. The buck must stop with the education minister (Pradhan),” he said. The party also criticised the introduction of new education policies and mechanisms, alleging institutional interference and reduced academic autonomy. “We urge the Prime Minister to intervene, ensure transparency in the system, and take responsibility for the alleged lapses,” he said.On a question over the Rajya Sabha polls, whose nomination process for two seats from the state began on Monday, Bhattacharya said that talks are still on among the alliance partners and a decision will be announced soon.Members of Congress student wing, NSUI, sat on dharna outside the Lok Bhavan seeking removal of Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak and controversies related to other exams.State BJP secretary Ganesh Mishra said that state govt should also talk about serial leaks under Hemant Soren in recent years. “Union govt is sensitive towards students and is taking prompt action whenever any irregularities are coming to light. CBSE officials have been transferred and a probe has already been ordered,” he added.
