East S’bhum DC appoints nodal officers for MGMMCH and JSR sadar hosp

Jamshedpur: Following five reported deaths at two govt hospitals — Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) and Sadar Hospital, Jamshedpur — over the past nine days, deputy commissioner (DC) Rajiv Ranjan has deputed nodal officers to both healthcare centres.MGMMCH reported four deaths between May 31 and June 4, while the Jamshedpur sadar hospital reported one death. In all five cases, the bereaved families alleged medical oversight and accused the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff of negligence in discharging their duties.Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Anurag Kumar Tiwary has been appointed as the nodal officer for MGMMCH and Dhalbhum sub-divisional officer (SDO) Arnav Mishra as the nodal officer for the sadar hospital.DC Ranjan said, “The officials would make random visits on a regular basis to their designated hospital to conduct inspections, meet with patients, attendants, and visitors, and collect real-time feedback.”“The objective is to improve the healthcare delivery system, make the management organised and accountable, and ease the grievances of the people coming to these hospitals,” he stated. At present, management teams at the respective hospitals are probing the cases. A district administration inspection committee identified several critical deficiencies at the MGMMCH last week. DC Ranjan issued a warning to health officials at the sadar hospital after finding shortcomings during an inspection on May 4.
