Proposed street food hub in Doranda to showcase culture, local cuisine

Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) planning to set up a dedicated street food hub which will showcase the city culture and local flavours at a single place. Officials on Monday said the proposed hub is expected to come up near Rajendra Chowk in Doranda by March 2027.Besides local cuisine, the hub will be decked up with tribal motifs, murals and wall art, a dedicated space for live folk performances, art installations and shops promoting local crafts and SHGs.The proposed facility will operate from 5 pm. Officials said it is being designed as a safe, family-friendly space where visitors can enjoy eating without any security issues. Officials hoped the project, estimated to cost Rs 4 crore, will be funded by the Centre.The hub will also be disabled-friendly. Officials said Jamshedpur has a ‘Khao Gali’ (food street), but it does not have such facilities. “We are working on a concept which will be first in the state,” RMC administrator Sushant Gaurav said.He added that a detailed project report has been sent to the Centre for approval. Officials said a presentation was also made before the joint secretary of the ministry of housing and urban affairs.Nikesh Kumar, assistant municipal commissioner, said the hub is expected to boost Ranchi’s night economy by creating an organised, permanent and well-lit public space for food lovers, vendors and families.
