Passenger caught between train and platform saved by RPF

Ranchi: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel on Thursday displayed commendable alertness to save a passenger who was being dragged along by a moving train at Ranchi railway station.Notably, under its ‘Operation Jeevan Raksha’, the RPF assistant sub-inspector Vijay Kumar Bharti and head constable Nitesh Kumar were on vigil at platform No. 1 when the Bhubaneswar-Dhanbad Express started moving. All of a sudden, a passenger fell from the train and a portion of his body went into the gap between the platform and the train. Bharti and Kumar immediately rushed towards the man and pulled him to safety.RPF stated, “During interrogation, the man identified himself as Gobind Kumar Agarwal, 50, a resident of Tundi in Dhanbad district. Agrawal said that he was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Dhanbad and was trying to alight from the train to get drinking water when it started moving. Agrawal said that as he tried to get back, he slipped and fell into the gap.”On Wednesday, an RPF team arrested a person with 16.9 kg of cannabis worth Rs 8.5 lakh from Hatia railway station. The team nabbed Vishal Purkayat, 25, with cocaine, which was kept in a trolley bag, at platform No. 2 of Hatia station. Purkayat said that he was a resident of the Jagarnnath police station area. He informed that he was carrying the prohibited substance from Angul in Odisha.
