Daltonganj: Over 500 students of Medinirai Medical College and Hospital in Daltonganj are not being served tea in their hostels. With commercial LPG cylinders costing due to the West Asia conflict, the mess managers have struck off tea and eggs from the menus of the medicos living in two hostels.“Our mess is not serving tea for the past three weeks or so due to the crisis of LPG cylinders. Further, we have dropped eggs from the menu. It’s to save money to be spent on managing’ the LPG cylinders,” said Sanjay Kumar, the mess manager of boys’ hostel, said. Kumar said they have also cut down on bananas to buy LPG cylinders.
The MMCH needs about 60 commercial cylinders a month to prepare meals in the two hostels (one for boys and the other for girls). Commercial LPG cylinders are costing up to Rs 500 higher from the prices before the crisis.Jakka Srinivas Rao, the principal of the medical college, said, “We have instructed the in-charge of these two hostels’ messes to ensure there is no discontinuation of any meal. It must be maintained.” Rao said the mess staff have genuine problems during the crisis and every inmate of both hostels is expected to co-operate.
