Dumka: A 40-year-old mukhiya of a panchayat in Deoghar district was arrested for allegedly entering a 29-year-old woman’s house and molesting her on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.The accused, Sagar Mandal, was caught by the woman’s family members inside the house around 1 am. Sources claimed that Mandal entered the house and began molesting the woman while she was asleep.Her cries for help alerted other family members, who rushed to the spot and found the mukhiya in an objectionable position. The family raised an alarm, drawing villagers to the scene. Enraged residents allegedly thrashed the accused and tied his hands and legs before informing the local police outpost.Police reached the village, pacified the crowd, and took the accused into custody. He was later brought to the police station for questioning.“An FIR was registered based on the statement of the woman, followed by his arrest and remand in judicial custody,” said officer Moti Ram Deogam, adding that further investigation is underway.
