Two proclaimed offenders in 2005 bank scam case held

Ranchi: Two proclaimed offenders, Brijbhushan Prasad and Kartar Singh, in the Rs 1.25-crore bank fraud case, which was lodged on August 31, 2005, have been arrested on Sunday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said in a statement issued on Monday.Brijbhushan was arrested from Kopargaon in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, while Kartar was apprehended from Raipur in Chhattisgarh in simultaneous operations, it added.The CBI had registered a case on August 31, 2005, pertaining to fraudulent misappropriation of the amount from State Bank of India’s main branch in Dhanbad during the period from November 2002 to June 2005.Both the accused were declared proclaimed offenders by the court and red corner notices were issued against them as they had fled to Nepal. A cash reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to the arrest of each was also declared, the central agency said.Sustained efforts, technical inputs, and coordinated action led to the arrest of both of the accused, who were living under assumed identities to evade arrest. The accused persons would be produced before the court for further legal proceedings, it added.
