Ranchi police conduct flag march, issue traffic advisory and social media monitoring ahead of Muharram

Ranchi: In a bid to maintain law and order ahead of Muharram, Ranchi SP Paras Rana and sub-divisional magistrate Kumar Rajat led a flag march with armed forces from Albert Ekka Chowk along Main Road on Thursday.To ensure smooth conduct during the Muharram processions on Saturday, the Ranchi traffic police also issued an extensive traffic advisory. Traffic SP Rakesh Singh said, “Private and passenger vehicle movement on several key routes will be strictly regulated from 11 am on Saturday until the processions conclude. Commuters are advised to plan ahead, as dynamic diversions may be implemented based on real-time situations.As part of the traffic blueprint, general vehicle movement will be suspended on routes connecting Kishori Yadav Chowk, Shaheed Chowk, and Subhash Chowk towards Upper Bazar and Mahavir Mandir Chowk. Similarly, traffic will be barred from Kutchery Chowk, Chadri Talab, and Plaza Chowk towards Albert Ekka Chowk.Restrictions will also apply to major arteries feeding into Main Road, including Purulia Road towards Sarjana Chowk, alongside access lanes like S.N. Ganguly Road, Vishnu Gali, Budhiya Gali, and Radheshyam Gali.Furthermore, vehicles will be barred from moving from Kadru towards Main Road via the Radisson Blu Hotel. Connections from the Commandant’s Residence Turn and Mecon Chowk towards Rajendra Chowk will be closed, alongside the stretch from Tulsi Chowk towards Ambedkar Chowk.Deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri warned that administration and police will maintain strict surveillance on social media, promising immediate action against misleading or objectionable posts. The DC also urged the Central Muharram Committee to adhere to prescribed flag heights and strictly follow approved procession routes.Senior superintendent of police Rakesh Ranjan said that special security arrangements are being deployed at sensitive locations, with drone cameras monitoring crowded areas. Meanwhile, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation has carried out a special cleanliness drive along all designated procession routes, mosques, and Imambaras.
