Hazaribag Treasury Scam: Special Task Force To Investigate Accused Police Personnel's Assets in Bihar

Hazaribag: Deputy commissioner Shashi Prakash Singh has formed a six-member special task force to investigate the treasury scam case.Singh said on Saturday that a team of officials left for Gaya in Bihar on Friday to examine the assets of two accused police personnel, both hailing from Bihar. The team will investigate the assets, coordinate with the district registrar on land purchases and assess the motor vehicles and jewellery. The properties purchased by the accused will be presented to the court for attachment. Apart from this, all the transactions related to the PAN numbers of the accused will be investigated.An FIR has been registered against five persons, including three police personnel, in connection with the alleged payroll irregularities in the accounts branch. The accused are constable Shambhu Kumar, a resident of Gaya; constable Rajneesh Kumar Singh alias Pankaj of Hunterganj in Chatra; constable Dhirendra Singh of Konch Shankar Bigha in Gaya district; two women; and an unknown person, the DC said.Singh has also ordered the withdrawal and disbursement officers across the district to investigate the withdrawal of govt funds before disbursing salaries. The DC told TOI that he has sought cooperation from Gaya DM, Shashank Shubhankar, and his team to investigate Shambhu’s alleged illegal assets. The Gaya DM assured Jharkhand officials of full cooperation. The Gaya sub-registrar has been asked to cooperate with the Jharkhand team.Shambhu received compassionate employment in 2009 after his father, constable Nandkishore Chaudhary, was allegedly murdered by criminals in 2003. After turning 18 in 2011, he was posted to the accounts section of Hazaribag police lines.Shambhu was posted in the accounts section for 14 years. Rajneesh was working in the same section since 2016, and Dhirendra since 2019. As per rules, no employee should be posted at the same location for more than three years.Using money allegedly looted from the Hazaribagh treasury, Shambhu allegedly invested crores of rupees in two luxurious residences in Gaya’s AP Colony. Rajneesh was found to have constructed a two-storey house in Masipiri locality of Hazaribag, while Dhirendra built a big apartment in Bodh Gaya.Leader of opposition Babulal Marandi has written to chief minister Hemant Soren urging him to hand over the investigation to CBI or through a judicial inquiry under the supervision of a current Jharkhand high court judge.
