Dhanbad Municipal Corporation orders demolition of illegal marriage hall

Dhanbad: The Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) has ordered the demolition of a marriage hall near Wasseypur on the Bhuli bypass road after finding that it was built without an approved building plan.The civic body has given owner Syed Mohammad Arif alias Golden 15 days to demolish the structure, failing which the corporation will demolish it and recover the cost from him. A fine of Rs 10 lakh has also been imposed on Arif.Civic authorities said an inquiry found that the marriage hall violated setback norms and had inadequate parking facilities, both compulsory under municipal building regulations.Officials said the premises continued to function as a marriage hall despite the violations. During the hearing, Arif was given several opportunities to submit documents proving the legality of the construction, but he failed to produce any sanctioned plan. Municipal officials said he also said during the proceedings that the building map was never approved.Municipal commissioner Ashish Gangwar said DMC initiated the inquiry after receiving information about the alleged illegal construction. The probe confirmed violations of municipal rules, leading to the demolition order after nearly five months of hearings and verification.He said prior approval of the building plan from the competent authority is mandatory before any construction. He added that anyone aggrieved by the order may seek legal remedy before a competent court or higher authority.Police sources said Arif, a scrap trader, is believed to be a close associate of absconding gangster Prince Khan. Police have intensified action against Khan’s financial network and associates. Sources said complaints about the illegal construction reached the municipal administration during the drive.
