Thieves steal silver crown, gold ornaments from Durga Temple in Palamu; CCTV shows suspect

Times News NetworkDaltonganj: Thieves decamped with a silver crown and gold ornaments from a Durga Mandir on Station Road in Japla under Hussainabad police station limits in Palamu during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, police said.According to CCTV footage, a youth, believed to be around 17-18 years old, entered the temple premises and stole a silver crown, a gold nose ring and a gold mang tika.The burglary came to light early in the morning when temple priest Anant Pandey arrived to perform the daily puja. He later lodged an FIR with Hussainabad police station.Hussainabad police station officer-in charge Chandan Kumar said the accused may have gained entry through an open space around the temple dome. CCTV footage also showed the suspect loitering near the temple on Wednesday night before the theft.“The accused was carrying a backpack and appeared to be a senior school or college student,” Kumar said.Local jewellers have also been put under surveillance as part of the investigation, sources said.
