Ranchi: Two persons were arrested for killing a 75-year-old woman at Kitahatu village in Khunti district over suspicion of practising witchcraft on Thursday, police said on Friday. The deceased was identified as Etwari Devi.Khunti SP Rishabh Garg on Friday said that the victim’s neighbours, Dinay Munda, 20, and Mangal Munda, 19, have been arrested in connection with the incident. He added that a blood-stained bamboo pole and stone have been seized.Police said that the accused suspected Etwari was practising witchcraft after Mangal’s son fell sick when she took him in her lap. Further, Dinay’s mother passed away after Etwari admonished her during a quarrel.The SP said, “Police registered a case under Section 203 of BNS based on a complaint from Birsa Mundu, the victim’s relative, and formed a team led by Khunti sub-divisional police officer Mangal Singh Jamuda to investigate the incident. Police arrested both the accused within 24 hours of the incident.”Further investigation is under way, police said.Garg also appealed to people that whenever problems arise, they should use their rationale instead of believing in superstitions.
