SIT arrests three more in bar murder case, BJP seeks CBI probe

Jamshedpur/Ranchi: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the bar murder case arrested three more accused and detained a 16-year-old juvenile on Tuesday. The developments came even as BJP met governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, demanding a CBI probe into the killing of Himanshu Singh. On June 27, Himanshu, 24, and his friend Pratyush Singh, 27, were allegedly attacked by a group outside the bar in Bistupur following an altercation inside the establishment. Himanshu succumbed to his injuries on June 29, while Pratyush is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata.Addressing the media, East Singhbhum SSP Ehtesham Waquraib said the three accused arrested during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday were identified as Lakhinder Lohar, 20, Jagdish Mandal, 24, Vijay Mahanand, 42.“Lohar and Mandal were arrested from Dhatkidih under Gamharia police station limits in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, while Mahanand, who was the bar’s manager, was apprehended from Telco area,” he said. The SIT also recovered weapons, including a cleaver, axe, dagger, sword and five daggers allegedly used in the crime. The SSP said that Mahanand told investigators that the dispute began inside the bar over the playing of a particular song. Police said Himanshu and Pratyush subsequently informed bar owner Neeraj Singh about the altercation over phone, following which bouncers allegedly asked both groups to leave the premises. The confrontation later escalated outside the bar.Out of the 10 accused in the case, nine have been arrested or detained, the SSP said.Police said the bar owner Neeraj Singh, who was arrested from Rajasthan’s Sikar district, is being brought to Jamshedpur on transit remand. Prime accused Viswanath Mandal alias Bodra, on whom a reward of Rs 2 lakh has been announced, is still at large.Earlier in the day, a BJP delegation submitted a memorandum to the governor, alleging police lapses during the incident and demanding that the case be handed over to CBI. The party also accused police of shielding personnel who were allegedly present at the crime scene.
