Jamshedpur: Two drivers were killed and another was injured after a truck and a trailer collided head-on and caught fire on the Hata–Chaibasa main road (NH-220) in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Tuesday.Police said a truck carrying iron ore was on its way to Hata when it collided head-on with a trailer approaching from the opposite direction. The impact triggered a massive fire that engulfed both vehicles. The truck driver, trapped inside the cabin, was burnt alive, while the trailer driver was rescued with severe burn injuries but succumbed while being taken to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital.In the aftermath of the crash, two other iron ore-laden trucks travelling behind failed to stop in time. They rammed into the wreckage after braking suddenly and overturned along the roadside. One of the drivers sustained injuries.Seraikela SDPO Anubhav Bhardwaj said the exact cause of the accident was under investigation. The deceased were identified as Sukhdeo Pradhan, 43, and Sarjuan Yadav, 30, while the injured driver was identified as Rajesh Munda, 40.Police, assisted by local residents, launched rescue operations immediately after the accident, while fire brigade personnel battled the blaze.“It took firefighters nearly two hours to bring the fire under control. By then, both vehicles had been completely gutted,” Rajnagar police station in charge Vipul Kumar Ojha said.The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
