IIT (ISM) equips tribal students with advanced digital skills

Sharad Chandra |TNNDhanbad: IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is conducting a two-day capacity-building programme on advanced IT and computer skills for students of three Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Jharkhand, aiming to bridge the digital divide and boost employability among tribal youth.The programme, organised under the Centre of Excellence for Tribal Welfare with support from the ministry of tribal affairs, is being held on July 9 and 10 at EMRS Tamar in Ranchi, EMRS Basia in Gumla and EMRS Kujra in Lohardaga.Students of Classes X to XII are receiving hands-on training in Python programming and Advanced Microsoft Excel. The practical sessions focus on strengthening digital literacy, analytical thinking and technology-based skills needed for higher education and future careers.The initiative is part of a year-long training programme launched in July 2024, which now covers more than 200 students across seven EMRS schools in Jharkhand. EMRSs, established by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, provide quality residential education to Scheduled Tribe students from remote areas.“This programme is helping tribal students acquire future-ready digital skills and the confidence to pursue higher education and technology-driven careers,” said Rashmi Singh of the department of management studies and industrial engineering.
