Haryana drug trader held in Palamu with 48kg poppy husk, 230g opium

Daltonganj: Two persons, including a 55-year-old habitual narcotics trader from Haryana, were arrested in Palamu district with 48.2 kg of poppy straw (husk) and 230 grams of ready-to-use opium during a late-night anti-crime checking drive, police said on Saturday. Both were remanded to judicial custody. The entire consignment is worth around Rs 22 lakh.Palamu SP Kapil Chaudhary said the accused, identified as Pargat Singh of Sirsa district in Haryana, drove his car to Jamuna village under Tarhassi police station limits to purchase the contraband from a local resident, Aseem Alam alias Bittu, 42.According to police, Singh was returning to Haryana with the illicit consignment on the intervening night of July 10 and 11 when a joint police team from Panki, Tarhassi and Lesliganj police stations intercepted his vehicle during an anti-crime checking operation at Jarha village.Police recovered four bags containing poppy straw and a folded plastic sheet containing 230 grams of opium.During interrogation, Alam confessed to selling the contraband to Singh.
