Ranchi: All PM SHRI schools in the state will soon be equipped with smart classrooms, with the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) inviting proposals to select agencies for the installation and three-year maintenance of digital facilities across 288 institutions. The digital intervention, approved by the education ministry, positions JEPC as the nodal implementing authority to scale up modern educational infrastructure.JEPC state project director Shashi Ranjan said, “Currently, there are 363 PM SHRI schools in the state, and 75 of them already have smart classes. The plan is to fill the gap in the remaining schools and equip them with smart classes.”The project spans all 24 districts, with Palamu having the highest allocation of 27 schools, followed by Garhwa with 23 and Ranchi with 20.The primary objective of the scheme is to promote the integration of digital content into daily lessons and empower educators to utilise interactive features for delivering quality education.By providing teachers with modern digital resources and requisite infrastructure, the council aims to enrich the existing curriculum and pedagogy, making the teaching and learning experience both interesting and effective for govt school students while ensuring the availability of quality content.Launched to develop model institutions nationwide, the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) initiative aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. These schools are designed to serve as exemplars, with state-of-the-art infrastructure, upgraded smart classrooms and a strong shift towards competency-based learning models. The state has 413 PM SHRI schools in 308 blocks of 24 districts. Of these, 363 are govt schools, while there are 25 each Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas.According to the UDISE+ 2025-26 report, Jharkhand has 35,819 govt schools, of which 5,593 are equipped with smart classes.
