Ranchi: Seven persons were arrested on Tuesday night in connection with the gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in Ranchi district on July 12, police said on Wednesday. The case was registered with the local police station late on Tuesday.Police said that she visited a place on the outskirts of the city with her male friend, adding that he and his friends then forcibly took her to a remote area where they sexually assaulted her.After getting information, police swung into action and apprehended the accused from their homes on Tuesday night.SP (rural) Gaurav Goswami also reached the police station concerned on Tuesday evening to supervise the investigation.He said, “Around six police teams were formed to conduct raids and apprehend the culprits. Police operation is still underway as one or two more accused are still absconding.”The eight accused were produced before the court on Wednesday, which remanded them in judicial custody.This is the second gang-rape case in Ranchi district in the past one week. A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped on Thursday, with police arresting four persons and detaining two minors in this connection.
