Dhanbad: Tension prevailed outside PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Nirsa on Friday after a Class 10 student was allegedly brutally assaulted by fellow students.Angry parents and local residents staged a sit-in outside the school gate, demanding strict action against those responsible and accountability from the school administration. Heavy police deployment was made to maintain law and order. The 16-year-old injured student is currently undergoing treatment at Shri Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH). According to hospital sources, his condition is stable and he has been shifted to the male surgical ward.Protesting parents accused the school administration of repeatedly failing to ensure the safety of students. They alleged that this was not an isolated incident, claiming that a previous case involving the suspicious death of a student was allegedly downplayed by the authorities as an accidental drowning. The latest incident, involving allegations of ragging, physical assault with belts, and humiliation, has further intensified public anger.According to the injured student, his classmates accused him of theft before tying his hands and legs, forcing him to remove his clothes, recording a video, and beating him mercilessly with belts.Several parents warned that they would withdraw their children from the institution if adequate safety measures were not implemented.Following the protest, Nirsa block development officer Indra Lal Ohdar, SDPO Lileshwar Mahato and the officer-in charge of Nirsa police station reached the school to assess the situation. The BDO said that an inquiry into the incident was underway and appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.Deputy commissioner Aditya Ranjan also said a comprehensive investigation was initiated. He said, “Strict action would be taken against any student found guilty of ragging or assault. If negligence on the part of the school administration or staff was established, they too would face action.”
