She looks like a Barbie doll- with blonde hair, a bright smile and a glamorous outfit. But there’s one striking difference: she’s pregnant. Yes, you read that right. The unusual doll, designed to mimic pregnancy and childbirth, has become the latest toy to spark a heated debate online, with many calling it educational while others say it crosses the line.In a now-viral video from U.K. content creator Louise Boyce, the mom unboxes the doll and shows how to birth the baby and flip the mom’s stomach around so that the doll has a flat tummy again. Throughout the clip, the content creator looks disturbed and confused by the toy.

Which parenting tip from elders actually worked for you?

The My Mini Mom & Baby Surprise Doll, created by toy company Zuru, features a pregnant doll with a removable belly. Inside is a tiny baby enclosed in a transparent amniotic sac filled with slime. To “deliver” the baby, children remove the sac and squeeze it until the baby pops out along with the goo, recreating a simplified version of childbirth. In the comments of Louise Boyce’s post, many viewers were left shocked by the video. One person wrote, “I can’t decide if this is educational or terrifying or a bit of both.” Another pulled a satire at the oversimplified C-section, “Oh!! No one ever explained that I just flip my stomach around.” While some viewers called the pregnant doll “one of the most bizarre toys they had ever seen,” others joked about the doll’s instant postpartum recovery, pointing out that real childbirth looks nothing like the toy’s version. Even healthcare professionals joined the discussion. One midwife humorously noted that the doll’s circular “C-section incision” was far from medically accurate. While many found the toy unsettling, some people called the toy educational. Some parents said realistic toys can encourage curiosity and make conversations about the human body less awkward, especially for children who are expecting a younger sibling.Whether people see the toy as educational or unsettling, it has reignited a broader debate about how children’s toys should approach real-life experiences. Should toys reflect biology and everyday life to encourage learning? Or are some subjects better explained by parents and educators rather than through play?As the doll continues to go viral, one question remains at the centre of the conversation: Where should toy makers draw the line between education and entertainment?
