Dumka: Health minister Irfan Ansari on Monday reviewed medical and emergency response measures put in place in Deoghar for the Shravani Mela. The month-long fair, during which lakhs of devotees arrive at the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple, will begin on July 30.At the meeting, Ansari directed officials to ensure round-the-clock health care services, a robust emergency response system and effective public health safeguards throughout the mela period.Deoghar deputy commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuvaniya said 35 temporary health centres will be operational across the fair area. Of these, 32 will function round the clock with doctors, paramedical staff, oxygen cylinders, essential medicines and ambulance support. Three additional camps at Tapovan, Khargadiha and Trikut Hill will operate daily from 6 am to 6 pm.The administration is also setting up two dedicated mela hospitals, including a 50-bed temporary facility at the old Deoghar Sadar Hospital premises and a 100-bed hospital at the new Sadar Hospital. In addition, four tent hospitals with 10 beds each will be established at Dumma border, BEd College, Kumaitha and Nehru Park, taking the total dedicated bed strength to 190.Officials said coordination has been established with private hospitals, nursing homes and the Indian Medical Association to provide another 100 backup beds if required. A separate 20-bed diarrhoea ward has also been kept ready.To handle emergencies, 41 ambulances, including route-line toto ambulances and mobile response units, will remain on standby across the mela route and congregation points.Health department teams will conduct regular sanitation drives, food safety inspections and drug quality checks during the fair. As a preventive health measure, 21 pulse polio booths will vaccinate children accompanying pilgrims arriving from other states.“We are committed to ensuring that no pilgrim visiting Baba Baidyanath Dham faces any health-related hardship,” Ansari said.
