Ranchi: On the eve of the state civil services main examination on Wednesday, city police and CID conducted searches at the Jharkhand Public Services Commission (JPSC) office and at the residences of its officials on Tuesday.Sources said that JPSC chairperson Lalbiaktluanga Khiangte resigned. However, TOI could not confirm the development till the time of filing of the report. At least seven people were detained in connection with the searches, as well over alleged irregularities in exams held by the commission in the recent past, sources said. The CID team sealed the office of an outsourcing agency engaged for conducting competitive exams and examined documents and digital devices, including computers and laptops, on the JPSC premises.Sources said the action followed a state govt directive asking the CID to conduct a thorough inquiry into allegations raised against JPSC and identify possible malpractices in the exam process. The investigation comes amid continuing protests by several organisations in the city over the 14th JPSC civil services preliminary exam results. On Tuesday, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha members took out a torchlight procession on the issue. MLA Jairam Mahto said that JPSC was under the scanner over the conduct of exams.
