In a bid to attract birdies, the state government approved a ₹45-crore Eco-Nature Park at the Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary (TCFS). The project will feature India’s first AI-powered bird detection and monitoring centre. The main aim behind this is to enhance bird conservation while creating a new eco-tourism attraction for nature and bird lovers. The announcement comes as part of Maharashtra’s broader efforts to promote sustainable tourism along with protecting the country’s most important coastal wetland ecosystems. The park is renowned for hosting thousands of pink flamingos and more than 200 species of birds every year.Understanding AI-based bird monitoring systemThe main highlight of the project will be an Artificial Intelligence-based bird detection and monitoring centre. As per officials, it is going to be the first of its kind in India. It means that now officials will not rely only on manual observations. They will now use AI-powered technology to identify bird species in real time and monitor migration. As per project details, AI-enabled cameras and monitoring systems will analyse birds across a 1.5-kilometre stretch of the park.
