Ranchi: Jharkhand high court on Monday asked the state govt to respond to a petition challenging the proposed construction of a football ground on the court campus.A bench of Chief Justice M S Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar was hearing the petition filed by the advocates association of the high court.The association challenged a govt tender for the construction of the football ground, residences for five judges and registry officials, and an auditorium.It said the campus should not be used for a football ground when there was inadequate space for advocates, particularly new entrants to the profession. The association sought additional chambers and sitting halls for lawyers.HC sent the proposal for the residences, auditorium and football ground to the state govt in 2024. The govt later floated a tender for the work.The case will next be heard on Aug 20, when the govt is expected to file its response.
