Ranchi Students Opt for Second CBSE Class X Exam: Math Focus Amidst New Policy

Ranchi: Schools across the city are busy preparing lists of candidates who wish to appear for the second CBSE Class X examination. This year, CBSE introduced two board exams for Class X providing students an opportunity to improve their scores in the second exam if they are dissatisfied with their marks in the first.Following the declaration of results of the first exam on Wednesday, CBSE issued a notification setting a timeline between April 16 and April 20 for students to apply for the second board exam and submit their examination fees. A grace period is available until April 22, allowing students to apply with the payment of a late fee.Students have started applying for the second exam, with current trends showing the maximum number of applications for the mathematics paper. Rajesh Pillai, principal of Kairali School, said, “Students have already started submitting application fees. Most of them are applying for mathematics paper as it was tough and they think they can do better in the next examination. Getting more marks in the subject can help students get admission in the science stream.Pillai said that around 90 out of 256 students who appeared for the Class X examination showed interest in appearing for the second exam. “However, I can give a final number only on April 20,” he said.Samita Sinha, principal of Surendranath Centenary School, said that around 15% of students would be appearing for the second exam. A total of 208 had taken the Class X exam from the school this year and all passed. “Most of them applied for maths and some for science. We have asked all to submit their application and fees by Saturday,” she said.At Nirja Sahay DAV Public School, 45 out of 132 students, who appeared in the Class X exam, had applied for the second exam by Friday.CBSE regional officer Ram Veer clarified that students who submitted their names for the second exam during the first phase, immediately after the first exam results, can still withdraw if they choose. Those now wishing to appear must pay the required fees. Additionally, students who took mathematics (standard) in the first instance may switch to mathematics (basic) for the second, and vice-versa. Students are permitted to reappear for up to three subjects.
