Times News NetworkRanchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation on Friday imposed a Rs 50,000 fine on a water bottling plant and shut the facility in city’s Kishoreganj area, for allegedly operating without obtaining the requisite permits from the civic body.A team of the corporation’s water supply wing has been conducting inspection drives across the city to check for groundwater exploitation and unauthorised water usage, during which the bottling plant was found flouting rules.RMC commissioner Sushant Gaurav has clarified that the campaign against unauthorised water connections, illegal water bottling plants, and the unregulated extraction of groundwater will continue across the city, and punitive measures will be taken against violators.STOI in its Johar Jharkhand page on April 5 highlighted the issue of mushrooming water plants across the city and quality concerns and health risks associated with the rapid proliferation of such facilities.
