7-year-old dies, 18 hospitalised after eating golgappa, chaat in Jharkhand

GIRIDIH: A seven-year-old child died and 18 others were hospitalised after consuming ‘golgappa’ and ‘chaat’ sold by a cart vendor in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Sunday, police said. The incident took place in Leda Bajto village under the Mufassil police station limits, accoridng to news agency PTI.“A seven-year-old child died, and 18 others are undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital after they suffered food poisoning,” said Sadar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Jeetwahan Oraon. According to police, a local golgappa and chaat seller had visited the village on Saturday evening, where many villagers consumed the food items. They reportedly began falling ill later that night, and more than 20 people, including women and children, were taken to Sadar hospital for treatment on Sunday morning, another police officer said. The civil surgeon confirmed that the patients were suffering from food poisoning, Oraon added. The condition of the other patients is said to be stable. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are searching for the cart vendor.
