Students injured in bee swarm at Gumla school; local residents intervene to drive bees away

Gumla: Several students of a govt school in Gumla district were injured on Thursday after a swarm of bees attacked them. As panic spread, students ran and ducked for cover. In the chaos that followed, three students were stung and several others sustained minor injuries.The incident took place in Govt Middle School in Kesipara under Sadar police station limits. The injured students were admitted to private clinics and Gumla Sadar Hospital but were released later.School principal Manaj Gupta said the school has about 150 students. Locals claimed there was a beehive in a tree near the school campus. An eagle provoked the bees before flying off. Locals drove out the bees by lighting fires to create smoke.
