CM’s counsel seeks time to reply to ED arguments

Ranchi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday completed its arguments before the special PMLA court in a case related to non-compliance of summons to chief minister Hemant Soren in connection with the Badgai land scam and money laundering case.ED advocates, including a senior lawyer from Delhi, took part in the arguments. The CM’s counsel, Pradeep Chandra, who was present during the proceedings, said that he sought time to reply to the ED arguments. The court fixed April 18 as the next date for hearing. The central agency has claimed that the CM did not appear for 8 out of 10 summons issued in the land scam case. ED had arrested Hemant on Jan 31 after questioning him during the 10th summons. The CM had appeared before the agency during the 8th summons, when he was questioned for around seven hours. The CM had skipped earlier summons and sought relief from the court in this regard. The Jharkhand high court granted bail to Hemant on June 28.
