Hazaribag treasury scam: Five arrested in Hazaribag treasury scam; Rs 28 crore fraudulent salary withdrawals uncovered

Hazaribag: Finance minister Radha Krishana Kishore on Friday ordered a statewide action against fake salary withdrawals from govt treasures as the number of arrests in the alleged Hazaribag treasury scam rose to five.Kishore also wrote to DGP and the home secretary and asked the officials to identify and transfer clerical and accounting staff who have been serving at a place for long in violation of the three-year transfer policy.Notably, the Hazaribag administration on Friday said Rs 28 crore had been withdrawn from the treasury on the pretext of disbursing salaries and other emoluments. On Saturday, the authorities had detected fraudulent transactions to the tune of Rs 15.41 crore.Khushboo, the wife of constable Shambhu Kumar was arrested on Friday along with Anu Pandey, the wife of another policeman posted in Bokaro. Shambhu was arrested on Thursday along with two other constables, Rajnish Singh and Dhirendra Singh, in the scam. Teams have been sent from Hazaribag and Barhi to Gaya in Bihar to investigate the matter. Sadar SDPO Amit Anand confirmed the arrests of Khushboo and Anu in the evening.“Those who are involved in the scam will not be spared. More details are expected to emerge once investigation is complete,” Hazaribag SP Anjani Anjan said.Shambhu, who is the suspected kingpin of the scam, allegedly amassed properties worth crores and had been living a luxurious life. He allegedly owned a palatial residence, expensive cars and benami assets. Sources said Kumar’s home, located in a prime locality in town, boasts luxurious interiors and premium fittings. Investigators are now examining financial trails, property documents and bank transactions to establish the extent of the alleged embezzlement. “We are verifying all movable and immovable assets linked to the accused. Action will be taken as per law,” a senior official said.
