Murder accused out on bail, 2 aides arrested in Palamu for shooting dead witness

Daltonganj: A day after a murder accused out on bail and two of his accomplices allegedly shot dead a witness in Palamu district, police on Friday evening arrested all three following an exchange of fire.The main accused, identified as Faiz Khan, 30, along with two other accomplices, were nabbbed following an exchange of fire near Taiyya Yamuna area under Panki police station limits on Friday evening.The three accused had shot dead Md Sameer alias Guddu Khalifa, 40, who was a witness to a 14-year-old murder case involving Khan, late on Thursday. Police said Sameer was in the trade of making school bags. He was at the office of a private bus operator along with his nephew, Mintu, and a few others, when the three accused barged into the room on the first floor of Palika Bazar on Mohan Cinema Road in Daltonganj around 10:30 pm and opened fire on Sameer.After the accused fled, Sameer was rushed to a local govt hospital where he was declared brought dead.Officer in-charge of Town police station, Jyoti Lal Rajwar, said that they rushed to spot after getting information.“A case was registered based on Mintu’s statement. Khan was in jail for around 8 years before coming out on bail a few months back” he said.Sources said a joint team of Town and Panki police led by DSP Rajeev Ranjan and Rajwar launched a search and tracked the accused down. The criminals first opened fire on the police team, which returned fire in self-defence, the sources said.Palamu SP Reeshma Ramesan said, “Faiz sustained two bullet injuries in his thigh and was caught along with two of his accomplices.”The post-mortem examination was conducted earlier on Friday by a team of three doctors.
