Tatanagar Station Eviction: 350 Shops & Homes on Railway Land Face Demolition for Model Station Upgrade

Jamshedpur: Railway authorities in Tatanagar has issued the final notice to about 350 people to voluntarily remove unauthorised shops and houses from railway land. The third phase of the eviction drive and subsequent land fixing work would be carried out within the next 10 days so as to rebuild Tatanagar station as a model station under the South Eastern Railway (SER), engineering department officials in Tatanagar said.“The eviction drive will be carried out on the Khasmahal-Golpahari Temple Road, the Kitadih Road, the Bagbera Road, and the Gudri market stretch as soon as the district administration deploys magistrates and police force is available after April 6,” said assistant engineer (Tatanagar area) R K Verma.Apart from the Railway Police Force (RPF) and the Govt Railway Police (GRP), cooperation of the Golmuri, Bagbera, and Pursudih police was sought to carry out the eviction smoothly. A small number of illegal occupants removed their belongings while a chunk remained to be evicted, he added.Meanwhile, the railways started fixing the land, where demolition was carried out in January and February in the first two stages of eviction drive. Levelling of patches near the railway station and Sankata Singh petrol pump commenced on Saturday.On March 23, the general manager of the SER, Anil Mishra, said, “The model station would be in place in two-and-a-half years.”The Rs 350-crore model station, to be built on 200 acres of land, would consist of a multiplex, a centralised AC facility with a sitting capacity for 2,000 persons, and a VIP lounge. It also included an augmented vehicle parking zone with a capacity to hold 10,000 vehicles, multiple entry and exit points at the first and second entry gate of the station, a community park, a railway archive point, and an enhanced surveillance system covered with over 130 high-end CCTVs cameras.The railways stated that the rehabilitation of the vendors was the responsibility of the state govt.
