Daltonganj: A resident of Uttar Pradesh was among two drug peddlers arrested by Manatu police early Tuesday with 216 kg of poppy straw, called Doda.The arrested were identified as Sanjiv Sharma (36), a resident of Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh, and Nizamuddin Rayen (44) of Garhwa district.SP Reeshma Ramesan said, “The two were in a car enroute to Robertsgang in UP with 216 kg of poppy straw when they were apprehended near the gate of the Manatu police station. The vehicle and two mobile phones were seized. The two had procured straw from a person in Chatra district’s Pratappur. Further probe is on.”Rayen is a history-sheeter and was out on bail under NDPS Act, 2020. Two unidentified bikers, who were accompanying the car managed to flee, police said.“Bareilly in UP has emerged as a new recipient of poppy straw or opium from Palamu. The Palamu residents provide logistics and material,” the SP added.
