Times News Network| RajeshDumka: Acting on a tip off, Deoghar district police have arrested three cybercriminals allegedly involved in online fraud by impersonating customer care executives of major app-based platforms and other financial service providers, it said on Thursday.Three accused — Santosh Kumar Das (36) and Roshan Kumar Das (22), both residents of Dumarthar village under Karon police station, and Suman Kumar Das (22) of Navapatro village under Madhupur police station — didn’t have any prior criminal record, said police.“Preliminary examination of seized mobile phones and SIM cards indicates their involvement in multiple cyber fraud cases,” DSP Kailash Prasad Mahto said.Police recovered four mobile phones, three SIM cards, five debit cards and Rs 3,000 in cash from their possession.According to police, the accused used to call victims posing as officials of different app-based platforms, luring them with cashback offers and reward points. Victims were persuaded to purchase gift cards, which were later redeemed by the gang.“They also posed as bank officials, falsely claiming that customers’ cards had been blocked and extracting money or confidential details on the pretext of reactivation,” said Mahto.
