Ranchi: Three members of an inter-state gang involved in bike thefts were arrested in Ranchi district on Friday and eight stolen motorcycles were recovered, police said.Addressing the media on Saturday, SP (rural) Gaurav Goswami said that the accused were identified as Sindh Kumar, 19, Aniket Kumar, 20, and Vikas Kumar, 25.He said, “Police were carrying out a vehicle-checking drive in Sikidri police station area when two bike-borne men fled towards Ormanjhi when they were asked to stop. Ormanjhi police then began vehicle checking at Guddu Chowk when they spotted the bike with the police vehicle chasing them. The riders were caught after a chase. Sindh and Aniket were arrested first.”During interrogation, the two accused said that they committed bike thefts in Ranchi, Bokaro and Ramgarh districts in Jharkhand and sold them in Gaya, Bihar. Police later conducted a raid under Amad police station limits in Gaya and apprehended Vikas.In another development, two criminals were arrested when they were fleeing after snatching a mobile phone from a person under Lalpur police station limits on Friday.The accused have been identified as Satyam Kumar Mahto, 22, and Anil Kumar, 21. Police on Saturday said that Sonu Kumar, a resident of Namkum, was going back home from office when three miscreants on a bike picked his mobile from his shirt’s pocket and tried to flee.The victim raised an alarm and immediately informed police. Two of the bike riders were apprehended after a chase while the third managed to escape. Police said that both the accused had criminal antecedents.
