Ranchi: The district has surpassed its inoculation target during the three-day polio immunisation programme, with more than 5.15 lakh children aged between 0 and 5 years administered oral polio vaccine during the campaign that concluded on June 30, officials said on Wednesday.The district achieved an overall 102.01% inoculation — 106.62% in urban areas and 98.81% in its rural areas during the three-day drive.While the drive was launched with a target to reach 5,05,524 children, however we managed to cover a total of 5,15,694, Ranchi civil surgeon Dr Prabhat Kumar said.“The highest inoculation took place in Sonahatu with 104.63%. A total of 16,834 children were inoculated there against the targeted 16,089, followed by 30,050 inoculations in Namkum, against the targeted 29,164, reporting 103.04% inoculation. The immunisation drive achieving coverage beyond the initial target reflects strong public participation and coordinated efforts by ground-level healthcare workers,” the civil surgeon added.On the first day of the campaign on Sunday, 4,51,019 children out of the targeted 5,05,524 were inoculated, achieving an 89.22% inoculation rate.As many as 3,893 booths were set up across the district, with 7,786 team members and 571 supervisors deployed.The three-day immunisation campaign targeted to inoculate 61.26 lakh children in the 0-5 age group in three days. However, the state health department was yet to compile the data received from all districts.“In the three days, as many as 61,26,679 children were inoculated, amounting to 100% coverage of all the targeted children,” Dr Vijay Kishore Rajak, state nodal officer of child health (NHM), said.RMC mayor Roshni Khalkho, Ranchi MLA C P Singh and Jharkhand’s National Health Mission (NHM) director Shashi Prakash Jha formally inaugurated the campaign on Sunday from Ranchi by administering polio drops to children.
