Dumka: The Deoghar Municipal Corporation has deployed 750 sanitation workers to keep the temple town clean during the month-long Shravani Mela, which begins on July 30.The sanitation workers, called “Safai Mitras”, will be deployed round the clock around the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple complex, Shivganga pond and major pilgrim routes, officials said.The civic body expects around 1.5 lakh devotees to visit Deoghar daily during the fair. Devotees have already begun arriving in large numbers since Shravan in the Bengali calendar began on July 17, prompting officials to step up preparations.“The civic body must ensure that there is no compromise on sanitation so that pilgrims from across the country and abroad have a memorable experience,” local priest Lambodar Panda said.Residents said the rise in the number of visitors had led to a surge in solid waste generation across the city.Rajneesh Kumar, additional municipal commissioner of Deoghar, said efforts were also being made to ensure the supply of clean drinking water, uninterrupted power, pothole repairs and other civic services.“A total of 750 Safai Mitras will remain on duty round the clock in three shifts, with special focus on the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple complex, Shivganga and all major pilgrim routes, to provide a clean, safe and convenient environment throughout the pilgrimage season,” Kumar said.
