Jamshedpur Heatwave: DC Orders Urgent Water Access & Power Outage Helplines

Jamshedpur: With temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius and humidity touching 78% in the district, East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Rajiv Ranjan has directed officials to urgently scale up measures to mitigate public distress. The DC instructed heads of all departments to immediately arrange drinking water facilities at their offices as well as residential premises so that residents visiting govt establishments don’t suffer in the heat. The order covers key locations, including block development and circle offices, panchayat bhawans and rural market offices.Civic bodies have also been asked to expand public drinking water access. Officials of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC), Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) and Chakulia Municipal Council (CMC) have been directed to install water coolers and earthen pots at strategic points such as busy markets, public squares and major road intersections.“People moving on the streets should not face any problem in finding water to quench their thirst,” Ranjan said.To strengthen rural supply, the DC directed the drinking water and sanitation department to inspect hand pumps and repair defective ones on a priority basis. Officials were also told to verify that hand pumps repaired in recent weeks remain functional and to monitor installations regularly for maintenance. To prevent laxity and ensure accountability, the DC mandated that officials send real-time photographs of working water installations to the district headquarters. “Along with official paperwork and files, live pictures must be provided to the headquarters to verify the ground reality,” he said. The Jamshedpur division of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) has launched 24×7 helpline numbers for consumers in Jamshedpur, Adityapur, Ghatsila and Mango subdivisions. GM Ajit Kumar said the helplines will register complaints round the clock for issues such as low voltage, power tripping and transformer failures. Consumers must share their addresses and consumer numbers for faster resolution. The JBVNL helplines are: Mango: 8434659400; Ghatsila: 9341495727; Jamshedpur: 8987628937; Adityapur: 8434659950.
