Vishvendu Jaipuriar | TNNHazaribag: NTPC Mining Ltd (NML) achieved a key mine-safety milestone, with three open-cast coal mines earning 5-star ratings in the Star Rating of Coal Mines 2024-25, conducted by the office of the coal controller under the Union ministry of coal.Pakri-Barwadih coal mine in Barkagaon, Hazaribag, retained the country’s no. 1 position for the second consecutive year, reaffirming its leadership in safe and sustainable mining. Dulanga mine in Odisha ranked fifth and Talaipalli mine in Chhattisgarh eighth among 5-star-rated rated mines nationwide.A company communique said the annual rating assesses coal and lignite mines on safety, environmental protection, sustainable practices, technological management and best operational practices. Dulanga secured the 5-star rating for the sixth consecutive year.The company said the recognition reflects its commitment to building a strong safety culture, promoting environmentally responsible mining and adopting modern technology, in line with the ministry of coal’s push for responsible and efficient mining nationwide.
