Dumka: Doctors at AIIMS Deoghar have successfully performed a rare and complex beating heart, or off-pump, cardiac surgery on a 45-year-old woman suffering from a hole in the heart, allowing the organ to continue beating throughout the procedure.According to a press communique issued on Sunday, the patient had been experiencing persistent breathlessness and increasing fatigue while carrying out routine physical activities. She visited the cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) outpatient department at AIIMS Deoghar, where she was evaluated by a CTVS team led by Prof Dr Rajan Agrawal. The surgery lasted around five hours. Instead of stopping the heart and putting the patient on a heart-lung machine, surgeons repaired the defect while the heart continued to beat, helping maintain her natural blood circulation throughout the operation.Following the successful procedure, the patient regained consciousness and was weaned off ventilator support. Doctors said her condition is stable and is recovering well.
