Dhanbad SSP Prabhat Kumar conducts a crime review meeting at Dhanbad collectorate
Dhanbad: Dhanbad Police recorded nearly a 30% decline in crime compared with the corresponding period last year, attributing the improvement to stricter monitoring, faster investigations and sustained enforcement, officials said after the monthly crime review meeting held at the district police headquarters on Friday.The meeting, chaired by senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar, was attended by city SP Ritwik Srivastava, Rural SP S. Mohammad Yakoob, all DSPs, SDPOs, police station in-charges and OP in-charges. Officials reviewed crime trends, pending investigations, warrant execution and the overall law and order situation.According to official data, 409 new criminal cases were registered in June, while police disposed of 460 cases, indicating faster clearance of pending investigations. The number of pending cases has come down to 1,794. Kumar has set a target of reducing the figure to below 1,600 within the next two months.Police also stepped up warrant execution, disposing of 574 pending warrants in June—150 more than the warrants issued by courts during the previous month. The SSP directed all police station heads to dispose of at least 50% of pending warrants and attachment cases in July and ordered a week-long special drive to arrest absconding accused.In the investigation wing, police filed 509 charge sheets or final reports in old cases during June. Of the 46 online complaints received, 30 were resolved. The number of pending unnatural death cases has also fallen below 1,000, with officers directed to expedite disposal of the remaining cases.Road safety indicators also improved, with road accidents declining by 33% in June compared with May. Kumar asked officers to intensify traffic enforcement and public awareness campaigns to sustain the trend.Crediting continuous monitoring, focused policing and enforcement drives for the improvement, the SSP directed officers to intensify action against organised crime, absconders and delays in investigation and case disposal.
