Daltonganj electricity dept probes lineman’s death

Daltonganj: The electricity department on Wednesday conducted its first high-level inquiry into the July 19 death of lineman Satender Kumar Mahato (32) who was found hanging from overhead electricity wires in Selari village under Palamu’s Tarhassi police station limits.Mahato was reportedly fixing power supply through a 25 KV transformer when he was electrocuted.Executive engineer Santosh Kumar visited the site, met Mahato’s family and local consumers, and examined the circumstances that led to the death.Kumar said, “The deceased lineman was neither any of our department’s authorised lineworker nor any manpower of the outsource agency. The deceased was just a local who knew the job of fixing or mending the fault in electricity supply, etc.”The inquiry also examined who asked Mahato to climb the transformer. “No local consumer has any answer to it. Everyone is tightlipped,” Kumar said.On reports of no visible burn marks, he said, “We cannot say anything right now. We are waiting for the post mortem report to come.”
