Days after deadly clash, prohibitory orders clamped in Palamu village

Palamu: The district administration in Palamu has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS Rampur village under Chainpur police station limits following a violent clash over a land dispute on May 23 which left one person dead and four were injured. The order, issued by Sadar sub-divisional magistrate Sulochana Meena, came into force on June 2 and will remain in effect till June 30.According to the order, police apprehend a breach of peace and public tranquillity in the village after a May 23 firing incident. An FIR was lodged by the deceased’s family naming 17 accused and over two dozen unidentified persons. So far, two accused have been arrested. The order notes “deep-seated mutual distrust and disbelief” between the two groups, with the situation remaining fragile due to continuing hostility after the incident.Palamu SP Kapil Chaudhury said police in Chainpur had received information about a gathering in support of the deceased on June 5. “Such a gathering, where inflammatory speeches and incitement can’t be ruled out at this stage when Rampur is limping back to normalcy, necessitated prohibitory orders to maintain peace and keep vested elements at bay,” he said. A peace committee meeting was held on June 3 where representatives from both the groups attended. “They vowed to maintain peace,” said Chainpur police station in-charge Lalji.
