Hazaribag: DC Hemant Sati on Wednesday ordered a tougher crackdown on illegal coal transportation, overloaded vehicles and other transport violations, warning officials that “negligence in enforcement would not be tolerated”.Chairing a transport department review meeting at the Hazaribag district Collectorate, Sati reviewed vehicle registration, road safety, tax collection, pollution control and enforcement work. He directed officials to conduct regular inspections and take strict action against violators, with special focus on unregistered vehicles. A districtwide special drive against such vehicles will continue till Aug 15, while vehicle owners have been urged to complete registration without delay.The DC stressed that all vehicles must undergo timely fitness checks and operate according to prescribed safety norms. He instructed officials to sustain enforcement drives against vehicles running without valid fitness certificates or violating transport rules. The district transport officer and motor vehicle inspector were also asked to continue regular penalty drives.Reviewing pollution control, Sati directed that every petrol pump in the district must have Pollution Under Control (PUC) testing facilities. Pumps without the facility have been told to install the required equipment before Aug 15. He further ordered that fuel should not be supplied to vehicles that do not have a valid PUC certificate.On tax recovery, the DC instructed officials to issue notices to all vehicle owners with pending dues. He warned that certificate cases would be initiated against defaulters who fail to pay within the stipulated time, saying revenue loss to the govt would not be accepted.Referring to reports of NDPS-related activities and illegal cattle transportation in the Barhi area, Sati told officials to coordinate with other departments, take stringent action and keep the district administration informed of every enforcement step.He also directed the road safety team to regularly inspect accident-prone black spots, review safety measures and take preventive steps to reduce road accidents. Citizens were urged to comply with registration, fitness, tax payment and pollution control regulations.
