Adhik Maas is also known as Purushottam Maas. This month is one of the most sacred months according to Hindu calendar. This month is dedicated to worship Lord Vishnu. This whole month is considered highly auspicious for spiritual growth, charity, devotion and self discipline. This is believed to be auspicious to perform various spiritual and religious activities. Purushottam Maas started from May 17 and it will end on June 15, 2026 so one should follow some guidelines that we are going to mention below. Let’s check out the below mentioned do’s and don’ts:

Follow Spiritual Activities

This month is extremely sacred and pious. People perform various religious and spiritual activities from lighting a diya, doing prayer, meditation and chanting mantra to reciting sacred scriptures.

Observe Fast

People can observe fast on any specific day to appease Lord Vishnu. Thursday is dedicated to Lord Vishnu so one must worship him on this particular day.

Chant Mantras

During this month, one must chant various Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama and Lord Krishna mantras to appease them as they bless the devotees with their desired wish fulfillments. This is going to be the powerful ritual which everyone should follow during this month.

Recite any scripture

Devotees are advised to read any sacred scripture such as Ramacharitmanas and Bhagavad Gita as these scripures will help you connect with the Lord and you will be able to learn so many things through this.

Recite Stotrams/Kavachama

You can recite Shri Hari Stotram, Narayan Kavach and Vishnu Sahasranama because reading them can be meritorious during this Purushottam Maas. This will help you fulfill all the desired wishes.

Don’t drink alcohol

As we know that Purushottam Maas is dedicated to Lord Vishnu so the whole month is considered extremely sacred and you need to stay away from alcohol.

Avoid non vegetarian food

Devotees are avoid to eat non vegetarian food as this will create an obstacles if you are looking for spiritual growth. Pure vegetarian and sattvik food is preferred because it will make you feel calm and relaxed while following spiritual activities.

Avoid anger and negative speech

You should avoid using negative words, jealousy, hatred and greed during this month. We all have five bad elements which we should try to improve and Purushottam Maas is the most significant month to follow this.

Avoid auspicious events

As this month is also known as Adhik Maas so organizing auspicious events such as marriage, engagement, roka, housewarming ceremony, naming ceremony, buying property, and starting new business venture should be avoided.
