Five killed, 2 hurt in separate road accidents across Kolhan division

Jamshedpur: Five people were killed and two others sustained injuries in five separate road accidents across Kolhan division in the past 48 hours, police said on Monday.On Monday afternoon, 45-year-old Sukhdeo Gorai was killed after his motorcycle was hit from behind by a speeding truck on the Govindpur-NH-33 road under Govindpur police station limits. Gorai was killed on the spot, while his friend Kali Das, 40, who was riding pillion, was admitted to Tata Motors Hospital with a fractured leg. The truck driver was apprehended by locals and handed over to the police.In a similar incident earlier in the day, a 33-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man sustained injuries when their two-wheeler was hit by a truck near Kolabira on the Gamharia-Seraikela road. Phulsari Mahto and Shambu Charan Mahto, the injured, were from Seraikela and were travelling from Kadma to Kandra. The truck driver was chased and handed over to police.Two fatal accidents were reported in Seraikela on Sunday. Debashish Sahu, 25, a nursing staff member of Netaji Subhas Medical College and Hospital, died after his motorcycle collided head-on with another bike on the Adityapur-Kandra Road while he was on his way to work. The other rider fled the spot.In a separate incident, Jaipal Singh Lohar, 33, was killed after a trailer hit his motorcycle from behind on the Chowka-Kandra stretch while he was carrying firewood to a local weekly market. The trailer remained untraced till Monday.In West Singhbhum district, railway goods guard Amit Kumar Swain, 45, died after his motorcycle fell into a drain near Uluguttu village in Chaibasa. His brother-in-law Ashish Dogra, 42, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries.Police said investigations are underway in all cases.
