Ranchi: The state road construction department is gearing up to launch the construction of two elevated corridors in Ranchi. The projects, which will originate at Karamtoli Chowk and Argora Chowk respectively, is expected to cost Rs 820 crore in total and improve traffic in the state capital, officials said.Sunil Kumar, secretary of the department, said, “The state cabinet has already given its administrative approval to the projects. The bill of quantities required for the competitive bidding process has been finalised, and the tender for both the projects will be floated within a week.”The proposed Karamtoli elevated corridor project will connect Karamtoli Chowk to Science City flyover and will be 3.216 km-long. Once operational, it will help motorists drive smoothly through Antu Chowk, Divyan Chowk, Science City and Chiraundi Chowk. The flyover is also expected to cut down traffic from key roads such as Circular Road, Bariatu Road, Morabadi, and the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences zone. Vehicles entering Ranchi from Ramgarh and Hazaribag can use the flyover to cut down travel time.Department sources said the project will feature a 2.7 km main flyover spanning from Karamtoli to Science City in Chiraundi, and a 0.52 km dedicated link road to Morabadi. The total sanctioned budget for this stretch stands at Rs 351.14 crore, which will also cover expenses for land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement, utility shifting, afforestation, and landscaping. The second project at Argora Chowk will feature an elevated corridor extending from Harmu to the Dibdih bridge. The design also includes dedicated legs branching out towards Kathal More (Chaputoli) and Ashok Nagar (near Road No. 3), covering a total distance of 3.804 km. The project has received administrative approval for Rs 469.62 crore. The multi-legged structure is expected to smooth out travel at Argora Chowk, Old Argora Chowk, and Argora-Kathal More and reduce traffic load across neighbouring hubs like Harmu, Birsa Chowk, Kadru, and Pundag. The flyover will also establish an uninterrupted conduit for heavy intercity traffic arriving from Khunti, Simdega, and Gumla, officials said.
