Ranchi: The governor’s office on Wednesday wrote to director general of police Tadasha Mishra seeking details about missing children, expressing concern over regular reports of missing girls surfacing in the media. The move also comes in the wake of Jharkhand high court’s recent directives while hearing cases related to two missing children from Bokaro and Gumla districts, after the HC criticised police over alleged laxity in probe. The Lok Bhawan also ordered expedited investigation into the cases of missing minors. “Reports about missing minors in the state are surfacing regularly and police are charged of not taking timely action to crack those, which is a serious concern. This requires a special review of such cases across all the districts on priority basis and all the district-wise updated details of pending cases should be made available to the Lok Bhawan,” read the letter from Nitin Kulkarni, additional chief secretary to governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. Through the letter, the governor has directed that individuals involved in such crimes must be taken to task. “The safety of every kid, specially the girl child, should be the highest priority of the state,” read the letter adding that the governor’s office had received several memoranda recently times related to the disappearance of minor girls. Over a week back, based on a habeas corpus petition filed by mother of a 18-year-old Bokaro girl early this year, the high court came down heavily on police, following which it recovered the purported skeletal remains of the girl and arrested his ex-boyfriend for murder. Subsequently, the entire staff of Pindrajora police station was suspended for inadequate probe but the court further directed police to carry out DNA test of the skeleton. On Monday, the court again rapped police for failing to trace a missing minor girl since 2016 based on a complaint by her family. The court gave Gumla police two weeks to trace her, failing which it announced the case may be transferred to CBI.Notably, Bokaro police is currently facing high court’s ire over its laxity in probing the case of an 18-year-old girl, who had gone missing in July last year.
